I have not really set down to read a book in about 10 years. My job requires me to do a great deal of reading with keeping up with current technologies in the market, so by the time I get home it is not a priority. I picked up your book and within 72 hours had read the whole thing. It was truly an amazing story. I just wanted to let you know your book really inspired me on all levels of faith, family, humanity, and life.

I’ve read very few things that have humbled me so much, and it also helped provided insight to many of my personal perspectives. I showed it to a class of ‘76 Grad on the metro today on my way to work and he wondered why I had so many earmarks on the pages…I told him that those were sections that I planned to go back and read over because they were such strong messages to me. Thanks again and well done! I’m really looking forward to telling others about the book.

I finished your book last night. Wow is all I can say. Your book is by far one of the best I have ever read. Your sharing of the fear and doubt that you faced was more than I could ever do. Your book stirred something inside of me. Although I never was in the circumstances that you were in, I felt many things after coming home that you described. I’ve felt the anger with myself and not knowing who I was anymore. I cant even describe how much it moved me to see many of my own thoughts written down in that book. I must admit that I wept a few times while reading the book. Not only at the way things were after returning home, but at the valor of you and your Rangers on Takur Ghar. You are definitely a hero of mine Nate. I thank you for your sacrifices for this country.

I finished the book yesterday. It was fantastic, to say the least. You are a very accomplished writer. The level of commitment and dedication you put into the book are apparent. It’s hard for me to put in words my feelings about the book. I am humbled by the sacrifices you and everyone in the armed forces make to ensure our freedom, which most of us take for granted. I see in our generation a sense of entitlement, with freedom being one of the things most people believe we’re entitled to without taking into account what others, such as yourself, sacrifice in order to maintatin it. These stories of other’s sacrifice for their country make me feel guilty for not doing the same. It also saddens me to read about the internal struggles you have experienced over the past several years. As mentioned in the book, only a soldier can fully understand what another soldier has experienced. I will never know what you and your fellow Rangers experienced that day. However, y’all should be proud of what you did on that mountain. You did your job, and you did it well under the most extreme conditions. Please accept my sincerest “Thank You” for everything you’ve done.

I read about 1 book a year and it usually takes me weeks to finish. I was able to read this in 2 days. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the history, the quotes, the short chapters and the way the book jumped around.

I just finished reading your book…it was awesome! I’m so glad you wrote that book. I suppose writing the book was sort of therapeutic for you as well. Your book was probably the most emotional (I can’t think of a better word to describe it) book I’ve ever read.
